Bradley Fox was shot in the head on Thursday September 13. He was chasing a hit and run driver. The man crashed his car, and Bradley started chasing him on foot. The man turned around and shot. It skimmed the K-9, and shot Bradley in the head. The K-9 was fine, but Bradley was dead. He was shot by Andrew Thomas. Andrew also killed himself. September 14 was Bradley's birthday. He was going to be 35 years old. He had a wife and a daughter. They sang Happy Birthday to him when he died. His wife was pregnant with their second child. This relates to history. The KKK wanted to kill the freedmen. The KKK are like Andrew Thomas, and the freedmen are like Bradley Fox. I don't think the KKK and Andrew Thomas know what they were doing. They weren't think and made a dumb mistake.
My article is about racism and how it is used to hurt people today. It said that it was practices, actions and beliefs. That different races were superior or inferior to others. It is also stated that it is disagreed by so many people. Today in the world even though races are mixed together there are racist jokes, differnt actions used against other races that can relate to history. This relates to what were learning now in history because of the freedmen. The slaves might not of just been hurt with words but they were hurt with actions. Freedmen were abused and used for work but paid nothing. When I read the article this was what came into my mind and even though now they are free they were still looked down upon. Alexa Gray
http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/fedex-economy-worsening-cuts-outlook-17260155 This article is about how FedEx delivery services are seeing a decline in sales, and that the economy is making an incredibly slow recovery from its recession. The article states that FedEx predicted that the economic growth in the United States for 2012 would be 2.2%, but their prediction for 2013 will only be 1.9%. The article also says that FedEx forecast earnings were at $1.57 per share in 2011, but are currently at $1.30 to $1.45. While FedEx will gain an increase from new products like the iPhone 5, it won't be able to make up for the lackluster sales. This story can relate to the southern economy following the end of the Civil War. Before and during the Civil War, the southern economy was heavily dependent on slaves, as they did all the housework, outside work, and other generic work for citizens of the Confederate States. After the Civil War's end, however, the 13th Amendment was passed, which stated that slaves would no longer be legal in the South. This completely destroyed the southern economy, and the South struggled to gain economical support from the North after the passing of the 13th Amendment. While the article displays figures not nearly as devastating as the fate of the southern economy, a 0.3% drop in the United States' economy growth can be considered a significant dip in only one year. A $0.12 to $0.27 drop per share at FedEx can also add up to a large drop in money compared to previous years, just as the South suffered a large drop in money compared to their previous years after the 13th Amendment was passed. That is how this article on FedEx's money loss and overall nationwide economical struggles relates to the southern economy after the Civil War. -Conner C.
This article’s about how the United States’ economic freedom has gone down since the year 2000. Economic freedom endorses the growth, and greater standards of living in the country, so this decrease is bad. In 2000 the U.S. had the second freest economy in the world. Today its the eighteenth according to an annual economic freedom of the world report published by James Gwartney, Robert Lawson, and Joshua Hall. The data used to determine which place we’re in is based off of data from 2010, and the information on if we’ve kept up our decline rate isn’t available so we’re not sure what place we’re in now. This decrease doesn’t mean that the country’s very poor, but that it’s becoming slower in improving life standards.
This article relates to when we learned about the South’s condition after the Civil War. The article says that the United States has dropped in economic freedom since the year 2000, while after the Civil War, the south had a bad economy. The slaves, which southerners depended on for money and work were freed so they couldn’t be used the way they were again. Also during the Civil War a lot of southern property was destroyed, so southerners had to fix the property. The topics are also related because both things went bad within a little over a decade.
1. The transcontinental rail road because it brought money to the west. 2.The buffalo hunters killed buffalo and sold buffalo furs and increased the econemy.
1. The southern economy had crashed after the Civil War due to a loss of labor forces. 2. The Transcontinental Railroad was making money for the United States.
1.buffalo helped us in lots of ways. This was positive because it brought us money. 2.railroads because it brough us money which was positive and got us around faster. -Alexa
1. The railroad brought in a lot of money and easier to get around. 2. The buffalo brought in lots and lots of money, from their meat and their fur and skin.
The article of the friendly fire shooting in Washington stood out to me because right away I thought of the cowboys and American’s and how they tried to get the natives to use them and how they made new weapons. Also the F.B.I was on the case and it reminded me of how people in the cowboy towns, they tried to be “policemen” or sheriffs. It is just like the towns back then when they were shooting at each other and committing all the crimes once all the new weapons went on sale and were made. There were lots of people on this case just like it took lots of people to find out who committed the crimes. Also the guy who created the idea of the mug shots is definitely used today so that helps with shootings and it helped back then too. keeley :)
1. Buffalo, because the westerners would use them for clothing and meat and made amazing profit from it. 2. Railroads because it brought it many immigrants for work and also developed and helped make things that brought in money.
Railroads- new transportation for goods, helped settle the west, made profit. Buffalo- Native Americans used almost all parts of them, made profit. -Alyssa
I think that our cafiteria is running a monopoly because they are not allowing other people to sell food in the cafeteria. a monopoly is ouning all or almost all the businesses in the area. this relates to what we learned in class because we learned the types of tycoons, captains of indisistry and robber baron. the ones that run monopolies were robber barons and we had a descussion that told weather the richest men at the time in america wer captains of indestry or robber barons and one of the biggest robber barons was rockefeller and he ran a monopoly by ownin all of the oil businesses in the area. and thats how it relates to our cafiter running a monopoly.
My article is about a recent discovery of a new gold deposit found in California. People are prodicting that this discovery is going to increase the amount of land purchased in that area.Just like the western movment.
This article is about the poor economy. It says that 44 million Americans are on food stamps and how the employment rate decreased by over 1.5 million for people being hired every month. The lowest percent of men having jobs is 66.8% and thats what it is right now. We have lost 32% of Americas manufacturing jobs because the jobs are moving to China. One out of 8 people are are food stamps right now. America can only support such a high standard of living by going into debt to other countries.
This relates to the banning of alcohol. When alcohol was banned the USA when into the great depression. The great depression meant that people were put out of jobs and it was a time where the US was at it's worst economic state. Now we have similar situation going on with our economy. Thats how it relates to history.
Wal-mart is a large company that has a monopoly. It does have some benefits like lower prices on foods and things that they sell but it also has a lot of negative things about it. On average according to "Business Week," for every Wal-mart put up in the next five years 2 supermarkets will close without opening up any new jobs. Also people that work Wal-mart make 20% less money then people who work at un-unionized supermarkets. This article also brings up the point that Wal-mart has the lowest prices now but what will happen when they are the only ones left? Will Wal-mart raise there prices because they are the only place anyone can buy from?
This can be related to Andrew Carnegie who ran a Steel manufacturing company that had it's own monopoly. This business had the same issues as Wal-mart does. Andrew Carnegie's company put little companies out of business because Carnegie was good at what he did and he could sell his product cheaper then his competition which is exactly how Wal-mart monopoly works.

My articl is called Argue over money? Your kids may suffer. In this article it says that if your family fights over money you will usually have higher credit card debt in high school then if your family doesnt fight over money.Researchers surveyed 413 undergraduates from 7 different universities and it said that 2/3 of the students have one. It also said that 1/3 have more then one and womer were more likly then men to have 2 or more. Students with two or more cards were three times as likely to have credit card debt exceeding $500 as students with just one. It also said that parents were trying to not fight over money so they wouldnt be in debt as much. I related this to the Progressive Era because they were trying to give people more jobs and they were trying to come out of debt.
I did my article on the “Fiscal Cliff” the country is facing in January if the President and the Congress do not come up with a budget that both can agree on. President Obama wants to raise taxes on the rich and cut spending. The Republican controlled House of Representatives only wants to cut spending. Obama wants to raise taxes on people who make $200,000 or more a year. This will move the top tax rate to 39.6 percent from the current level of 35 percent. The President believes that raising taxes and cutting spending is a more balanced was to cut the budget deficit. However, the Republicans believe that raising taxes on this rich will result in a loss of jobs. This is like after the Civil War when taxes got higher. This was unfair to the poor because they couldn’t pay the higher taxes. The article relates to what we are learning in class because higher taxes may hurt the poor, not because their taxes are being raised but because higher taxes on the rich may make it harder for the poor to find jobs because many of the rich are business owners who claim that higher taxes may cause them to lay off workers or not hire new workers. If the President and Congress do not compromise on the budget by January then another law called the Budget Control Act of 2011 will take effect. The automatic spending cuts and tax increases in that law are referred to as the “fiscal cliff”. This will help to reduce the budget deficit. After the civil war we were in a lot of debt, by raising the tax we could pay it off. -Shannon H.

Beginning with the areas with the east damage, the program, called New York City Rapid Repair, will repair the damage. The program has hired contractors to oversee the electricians, plumbers, and carpenters who will be doing the repairs. I compared this article to Reconstruction after the Civil War. During the war, much property was either destroyed or severely damaged, leaving the south poor and without any resources, much like the people affected by the hurricane. The plan of Reconstruction was mainly focused of what to do with the freed slaves, but also focused on rebuilding the south from the destruction. -Alyssa
In my article it was saying how apple is a monopoly. It said it is a monopoly, because they are only letting the user use the apps they paid for, and not letting them use any other, like a android can have some apple apps, but apple won't have any android apps, so they are just making more money, instead of letting them able to get android apps. I chose this, because in class we learned about all the monopolies back then, and how they dealt with it. Monopolies are always there, because it makes the business very rich, but it's not as bad , because there are still other businesses like apple, but back in the day there wasn't any smaller business, because there was always one that dominated. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_Apple_Inc_a_monopoly Michael C
In my article it is talking about how people don't want the marijuana business to turn into a corporation and or monopoly because it would only cause more problems like greed and corruption. One of the reasons I chose this article is because i was always wondering what they would do if something like this had occurred and happened. Many people also want the Marijuana business to turn into a monopoly because with a monopoly that means more money and more growth of the company. So, in reality it seems like a win win. But, they should really just keep it how it is now. This relates to class because when we were talking about progressive era a lot had gone on and one of the things that went on was a monopoly. Many businesses that were growing and gaining money but they did not treat workers right or make anything fair or just. That is my blog hope you enjoyed it! -Ian h.
My article was about how Honda made an all time best in their sales. They made the best US sales in November. All the damage and stop from Hurricane Sandy made sales in November rise. Their profits were shown at 116,580 units, which is a 39% gain in profits. It showed that Ford and Nissan only raised 17% in profit. I connected this article to what we learned in class during the Proggressive Era. This is because in that time, all the technology was getting bigger and better and the car industries were getting better and better. This shows how much its vhanged since then and how much money the Honda car company made.
My link is to the total cost for the war in Iraq. It is related to Spanish-American war because we are fighting with countries that attacked our land just like Spain attacked the USS Maine. Also it shows how much war costs. -Collin Britt http://costofwar.com/

ReplyDeleteMy article was about how Honda made an all time best in their sales.
