My article is about a guy named Terrance Williams. Terrance was convicted for the murder of Amos Norwood in 1984. He took him to a cemetery where he beat him to death with a tire iron and robbed him and set his body on fire. Terrance was 18 years old at the time and was the quarterback at Germantown High. Terrance Williams is scheduled to die by injection October 3rd. He is the first person to be executed by Pennsylvania in 13 years.
I think this story is related to how we have talked about slavery. Slaves were executed for the dumbest things. They were executed for trying to run away or talking the wrong way. It was unfair to them. They didn’t murder someone and they still get killed. This guy murdered somebody about 30 years ago and is now getting executed for it. He deserves it more than the slaves deserved it.
I think that naming an athletic team after and American Indian is a way of honoring them not insulting them. I think that so many people have chosen them to be their mascot because they have done such great things. We want our teams to be the Indians meaning we will do great things like they did. i am kind of a little bit of both, I see where Suzan Harjo is coming from but I also feel different about it too. I think that if the picture of the mascot is a true picture and not a caricature it is okay. If they will have to mascot as an Indian I think they should make it fair and not make caricatures. I think it was a stupid idea that Souderton High School changed it to big red. It doesn’t make sense. They never had a caricature of the mascot; they just had a picture of the American Indian
A argument from the article is that some people thunk it is honorable and has been used for a very long time. While other people think it is offensive and it bring tears to their eyes.

I feel that when a school or a sports team names there school or team after a Native American, that is showing honor. They are often chosen for a team name or a sports team because it shows bravery. It shows that nothing can hurt us. I don’t agree with what Suzan Harjo is saying. Native Americans did some great things to make this world what is it today. I don’t think it really made a difference. The Native American mascot was something to be proud of. It showed that we are brave and ready to win. If I was a Native American, I would be honored. If you do have an Indian as your mascot, you have to make it fair. Don’t make them look stupid. Make them look like they really do. There have been more than 3,000 schools in the U.S that have used Indian names for school. A lot of people say it is an honor.
I do not think that naming an athletic team after indians is wrong. I think it is honoring them in a way because we are naming our home team after them. I dont think we are trying to offend them at all. I'm not sure why so many teams are named after indians but in my opinion its because it is short and catchy. I do agree that most teams make a caractiture of indians but I don't think that is offensive. I think if they had an actual picture of an indian that would be more offensive. This article is about an anchorwoman from Wisconsin who has been with a local news program for years, but recently received an e-mail from a viewer that, in a nutshell, called her obese. The anchorwoman devoted four minutes of her news program on Tuesday to address the e-mail and called its author a "bully." After the news program aired, the woman received at least 1,000 supportive e-mails and Facebook page messages. The author of the e-mail, however, states that his messages didn't have anything to do with bullying. The woman is now being asked to make appearances on morning shows broadcasted nationwide. This story can relate to the Native Americans during the second half of the 1800's. The American citizens were moving into the west because of the Homestead Act, and the government wanted to do their best to "Americanize" the Native Americans, as they didn't believe that their traditions were relevant. To do this, the American citizens cut down the Natives' wood, killed almost all the buffalo, and attempted to build legitimate houses for them to live in rather than tents. This ended up damaging the Native Americans severely, and they attempted to fight back against the Americans, only to lose and get booted off their own home land by the government. This can relate to the article because the anchorwoman was being deprived of her appearance by an ignorant viewer, while the Native Americans were being deprived of their lives by the American citizens who moved to the west. The anchorwoman also fought back against the viewer, while the Natives fought back against the Americans. http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2012/09/kate-gosselin-wooden-spoon-spankings-criticized-child-abuse-group I did my article on a mother who spanked her children with a wooden spoon. She believed that she was allowed to punish them anyway she wanted since she was their mother. But, then child services got involved because they thought that that was child abuse and that she should not be doing that too her children and that it was not right. I agree with this because hitting a child with a wooden spoon is not only wrong but it's not fair too the child. This can be related to class because men who owned slaves always beat them and harmed them for the dumbest of reasons. Not only is not fair but that makes them believe that they are worthless. The men also did it for fun sometimes which is also morally wrong. -Ian H.
I did my article on how the energy drink Monster has caused some deaths, because there is such a high amount of caffeine. Last December a teenage girl died from a heart arrhythmia, because she drank a large can of Monster two days in a row. The mother of that girl filed a lawsuit against the Monster drink company. The lawsuit said “The company failed to warn about the risks of the energy drink.” The Monster energy drink appeals to teens and young-adults. This case shows that taking in high amounts of caffeine is very bad for you and can cause heart disorders.
This relates to history when people mined gold during the gold rush. The miners inhaled fumes and came in contact with the chemicals used in gold mining which caused many of them to become ill. Taking in too much of a bad substance can cause serious health issues. This is similar to when a person takes in too much caffeine from a Monster drink.

Clash denied this charge and Sesame Workshop’s investigation said that the charge of Clash having a sexual relationship with this man while he was sixteen was unsubstantiated. Clash had been with “Sesame Street” for almost three decades, and created Elmo’s voice and persona.
This is related to when we learned about railroad workers making a railroad that went all across America. When the workers were done working, they went to bars where they’d probably have sexual relationships with dancers, or prostitutes who were in the bars. The bars moved with the workers as the railroad’s construction went further down the country. They are also related because workers might have gotten into some kind of trouble with the law because of the people they had sexual relations with.

There is also another rumor going around that Lohan didn't pay her taxes last year either, so she will owe the government a lot more money then they think. This article is about the death of a popular Mexican-American singer named Jenni Rivera. She died in a plane crash on December 9. There are many fans of Rivera who live in Norristown that were astonished by the death. She was featured in a cable television show called "I Love Jenni" and had signed a deal to star in an ABC comedy show named "Jenni." Investigation on the death is just getting started, as an aviation official from Mexico states that it will take at least ten days to get the first report on the crash. This story can relate to the soldiers that died during World War I. Over 16.5 million people faced death in the war. Many died from fighting in warfare, but a lot of soldiers also committed suicide from fatigue. A majority of the soldiers’ families were shocked when the latter event occurred; whenever they came home during the war, the soldiers often seemed unhappy due to a mental illness that developed during warfare. This can relate to the article because the fans of Jenni Rivera were shocked at her unexpected fatality, just as how the families of the World War I soldiers were surprised at how one of their family members either acted bizarre or killed themselves. -Conner C.
My article is about the question if the stock market in 2013 should and will crash. The debate on whether the market will crash has been questioned for many years but people and companies are convinced its going to happen. The main arguement is that other countries (like Japan, Russia, and China) have their economy and stocks alot lower then we do but they live fine. America has been up and down with people paying loans, motgages, taxes, and bills. It seems like we are slowly going down but then shoot back up with success and then start crashing again. With this we could never tell if or when we would have another stock market crash or Depression.
I related this subject to when America was going through the great depression. The roaring 20's was such a popular and possitive time, with new inventions that could go on forever. America wa s in a great spot at the time but all of a sudden we crashed at random one day (Black Tuesday) and everything from there on out changed. People were homeless, no job, no food, or stability, the list goes on. At any point can we face another awful crash. Avery

ReplyDeleteI related this to World War I because with the war, they are loosing a lot of money and they will have no way of paying it back.

ReplyDeleteThis article is about the death of a popular Mexican-American singer named Jenni Rivera.

ReplyDeleteI related this subject to when America was going through the great depression.
